Dr. Alex Golden:
Hello. Hello everybody. Welcome to the becoming zesty podcast. So glad that you are here, and today we’re going to talk about a really important subject, and that is amplifying your impact. Right at the end of the day, this is what we all want, and even the not so good hearted people of this planet, they want that too, right? So really, what we’re saying is that, for the most part, when it comes to making a difference in a way that works out for the person doing it, everybody cares about amplifying your impact, but who we are talking to and helping and are assisting are the people that are the good hearted, well intentioned folks of the planet, because people have actually successfully figured out how to amplify their impact in ways that don’t feel good to People and or do not create win, win, win scenarios, right? Even if they’re a win for the leader, making them a lot of money or influence or whatever, are they taking advantage of someone? Now that’s very relevant to kind of pop culture and what’s happening today, because there’s a lot of that coming out than the people that look like they were kind of beacons of light on the planet, some of them have turned out to be less than desirable role models for identity development. I’m trying to say it in just the kindest way possible, but you know what I mean? As in sometimes it has happened that the people are in charge, or a lot of times, in my opinion, has happened where the people are in charge are not the good hearted people of the planet. And so really, this question is on my mind a lot, because that actually is the question on my mind, right? How do we amplify the impact of good? How do we create models of positive change on this planet? And how do we so for Megan and I, the question is, how do we as leaders help facilitate people becoming the leader that they most want to be, making the impact that they want to have, and do it in a way that creates that win, win, win. It’s a win for the person. It’s a win for the person that they’re helping or the people that they’re helping, and helping those people is a win for the world at large. So as long as it fits through that rubric or framework, that’s really what we want to amplify. So how does that actually happen? And what is really, really cool about this answer I’ve realized, is that, for the most part, it runs contrary to how we have been made to feel in life. So often, most of the work, and most of what we have come to believe and see and have evidence for is that it comes from hard work, right? It comes from action. It comes from doing the right stuff, being at the right place, at the right time, and all of that. And I thank goodness that it runs contrary to it. Because many of us have not been at the right place at the right time. We didn’t have the resources there, and so it didn’t just happen for us. And so that means that there must be, you know, if we are to be successful, there has to be a different way of coming to it. And what’s crazy about this is that it runs contrary to what we think, because the missing factor for magnetism, the missing piece for amplifying your effect, is loving and getting lit up and energized by what you do. So isn’t that funny? Because so often our brains, and just watch it if maybe this is you listening where you’re listening going, Oh, that sounds too good to be true. And then I mean, that was me, and I had to ask myself, why did I find it so threatening to have the idea of enjoyment be a part of the process rather than something I had to ignore, right, like, and we’ve talked about that on the podcast of, why do I have the belief that it has to be a crawl through the you know, turned up glass to be worthwhile to do and and this is where it has really made me realize that when it comes to being magnetic, to be powerful, to be a beacon of light in the world, we have to be attractive to the people that we’re talking to. They have to recognize that light. It has to be looking. And you can fill in what word you want, but it’s like, is it fun? Is it alive? Is it purposeful? Is it magical? Is it empowered? Is a, you know, curious? Is a inquisitive? It doesn’t really matter what that magnetic energy is that you choose, but it has to be something that people want. So what is so magnetic about being like I crawled through the mud, lost my whole family, ruined my health, making an impact in the world. Would people follow that plan? Some actually would. And there’s a whole bunch that would say, You know what? That trade off is just absolutely not worth it. So if that’s the case, if you are wanting to create a desirable new state in the world, a new way of doing things, in an industry, or whatever it is that you’re offering, does it look attractive? Does it look fun to live your life? Would someone else want to come and take your spot like someone that you’re actually talking to. If not, you don’t have that magnetism and you don’t like your stuff enough to really have that attraction built up, that’s not a bad thing, because if you attract a bunch of people into a crap that you haven’t quite refined, then it won’t work, and you’ll have wasted some opportunities. So really, in my mind, I’m like, Thank goodness I have been stopped from doing like ridiculous stuff in life, and rather just flip it around and say it’s going to be impactful and the ripple effect will grow faster and stronger and burn brighter when there is something truly exciting, empowering, fun, whatever it is that you are trying to cultivate, why is someone going to be attracted to you? Because really, at the end of the day, if you are not jazzed about what you’re talking about, or you have an issue with the subject, the niche, how you’re doing it. You have feeling, you’re feeling a type of way about yourself, putting that information out there, then I put to you that you know there won’t be any ampli amplification of the impact, because there’s not enough. You’re not plugged into an outlet that can sustain an amplification. You need a you know, just like music, if you’re gonna amp up a guitar, the guitar is already there. The amp is just there to make it louder, right? And so the same thing is here too, if it isn’t really, really aligned and jazzed up and magnetic for you, as in, you’re not super excited about what you do or how you do it, or how you go about doing it, or how you talk to yourself while you’re doing it, all that, then you’re your first client, so to speak, if you’re not attracted to it and you’re trying to get away from your life and what you’re trying to accomplish and what you need to do to get there, that’s where the disconnect is right. And so often I love to come on here and talk about the things that address the reasons people feel so bad about them. Cells, because I really think it’s not about that. None of this stuff is about like a personality decision, right? You can make personality decisions all along the way, and that is totally up to you. That’s fine.
But the magnetism, it does not come from your personality. Any one of us can be magnetic. And for that, if you want to, you know, for your mental Gremlins, if you want, an example is on the magneticism of Hitler, right? That is someone that it was not good for the world, but he you he used these things that I’m talking about, and these structures, and how hard he believed in it, and how attractive that was to those kind of people. He that’s exactly what he did, and we have evidence for how, how egregiously big that ripple effect grew, and how damaging it was to the planet. So if that is all true, from the negative standpoint, though, the good news is that it can be flipped around and be used for good instead, right? It was just certain aspects of what he did. There was no necessarily, approval of him. The only approval that he had was that other people followed. That’s the CO signing. And so we really, I mean, this is the kind of thing where I really only plan to speak to the people that want to do good and work with the people that want to do good, because I know this is this topic, and what we teach and what we’re talking about, and all of this stuff that is on this podcast is incredibly powerful, but we believe it should be used for good only, right? And that’s where you got to ask yourself, you know, if you want to get it done, and this kind of mission is really important to you being here. What are you needing? What does your life need to look like? Where is it really problematic? I would start there. Honestly. It sounds trite to say, but if there is an area of your life really lagging behind. The other ones, focus on cleaning that up, even if you don’t know what else to do to move your life forward. Go address some of those glaring things that are going on, because it is very those aspects of the vibe that you put out when there is the lack of excitement and the passion and the buy in from you, that template will be repeated. So if you do things to amplify your impact from that place, you can get a whole lot of commotion being created, and it’ll look like chaos, because you’ll have people coming in, messing around, wasting your time, ghosting you, asking for refunds, not really coming to the events you put on. You know, make it work for your situation. But long story short, you just don’t get the results. Instead, if we can actually say the way that I show up to XYZ has everything to do with my whole life, the totality of what makes that up. So I’m not going to be able to hide from people when I get there that I’m worried about my money. I need to go address that for myself before I even get in front of people. Now that’s not to say you’ll fix your money necessarily, but fixing how you feel about it at any given moment and and making an improvement there will absolutely then lead to money much faster than doing all the work, but not fixing any of the thinking around it, because you will be repelling people, and you will do a lot of work, and then you will be really mad at yourself, or the universe, or God, or whatever. And man, have I been I have done all of this. That’s why, you know this is I am absolutely in agreement of how we come to these places, but having been there, it’s easy to get really stuck and bogged down and to I mean, you, you can lose years on this kind of thinking. And the reality is that who you are and in totality, and how you feel about your clothes and how your car and your kids and or not kids or partner or not partner, how you talk to each other, or how your family is structured. Please, please, please, consider if you have things that you hate in life, what are you going to do about them? That’s really the only next question. I. Uh, it we don’t even really always have to start with, why are they there? Because sometimes it’s like, well, they’re there because I made some bad decisions. Okay, well, I can’t do anything about that. You know what I mean? I’m just I’m not going to keep using self awareness to beat myself up. I really won’t. But when I can use that self awareness to take action, that’s really what it’s going to look like. So essentially, anything that I deem as inadequate, and it can come from other people. So a troll on the internet might tell me something, but if I think that they have a good point, it’s valid, and I can go and look at it. And so consider in your life all the pieces that make you you, and understand that that’s the magnet that you’re working with. Depending on how the magnet is working for you right now, that is going to tell you where you’re at. That’s kind of the temperature of the situation. And the most empowering question, in my opinion, is, if I do, you know, if I do today, what are the combinations of things that I do in my day today that get me to feel really good about my life and really good about what I’m doing, allow that to sort of lead you, because oftentimes when we ask that kind of question, there’s so much more creativity. I was just talking to someone who was wanting to buy more properties, like real estate properties, and was also working on a family dynamic, and we talked about how action could be taken that would allow the houses to become a reality, while also Working on the relationships and shoring up the choices and the time spent and all the things there, and at the end, there was so much more compassion and also excitement for not only the undertaking, but the process that it was going to look Like, because when people feel good about what they’re doing like in the decisions they’re making, and what about what they’re doing when they wake up and then they go and do it and it actually feels good. That’s what all of us want, right? If all your need, your physical needs, were actually met, most of us would just want to walk around and do the things that felt good and help people, and because that does feel good and all sorts of stuff. So, you know, it’s crazy. We get conditioned to think poorly of ourselves. That looks like, well, if you had time, you would just mess around, or if you didn’t have to do anything, you would just be nothing. But I don’t think that’s true, right for most people, when I’ve worked with people, that actually doesn’t pan out for the most part, when people accomplish something, they get a new desire and a passion in their heart and they want to go do that. Patagonia is a company that’s a good example of that. And so consider if you’re talking more down to yourself, if you are someone that likes helping people, consider that when you make a boatload of money, you’ll still like helping people. Like that is an in and of itself, its own thing, kind of like it’s fun having a dog, but it’s also fun going on a walk with a dog every single day, at least in my opinion, right? So that that really is, I think, the sauce and thank goodness, because really, what we’re saying is you get to have fun, you get to live joyfully. You get to make your life what you want every single step of the way, knowing that that’s no one on from the outside is ever gonna expect you to live a crappy existence just to get to a good one. And if that ain’t the biggest weight of I don’t know what is. That’s just not the expectation, you know. So if you if you need some rain rewiring on that topic, check out the show notes.
