Megan Blacksmith 1:40
Hello, hello. Welcome to the podcast. Megan, here you all are in for a treat. Today. I have been holding on to this episode since, I believe, September of last year. I got to interview James Wedmore, our amazing business mentor, not just business mentor. He is also the person who lives the principles, the deeper spiritual principles, the hermetic principles, the universal laws. He lives the energy of success, and he teaches the nerdy details of success, such as funnels and the perfect page for opt ins and how to change your heading. So it works. So this guy is a mix of both worlds that we love, love so much. So when I got the chance to interview him in person, what I wanted the most from him was the behind the scenes of what beliefs shifted the most? Because he has a few different points where his business shifted in big numbers, like 2 million to 10 million and in a year, that kind of thing. And I wanted to find out the behind the scenes of what was going on there. But before I get into more about today’s episode and the interview with James, I just got to share something that could be a game changer for you, especially if you’ve ever said that you want to create a digital product, product, but have no idea where to start, or I don’t know what to sell, how to price it, or how to launch it. Like maybe you’re a coach, maybe you’re in the health industry, whatever it is, and you’re just not quite sure what to actually sell, then you definitely want to know about the free training coming up with James. So every year we promote James’s business by design program, because it is the details in the box, as he says, The Lego manual to business. And we think everybody should have this. Anybody who has an online business, anybody who has a business they want to scale. We think everybody should have this. It goes so well, which is why it was cool to do this interview. It goes so well with what we do in NLP. We bring the belief side. James does too. He’s a master at NLP and language, and he brings the nitty gritty of business. And every year when we promote his business by design, because it only goes live once a year in June, or, yeah, June. And
we always offer bonuses, because we love to promote his work. And we want people in we want what we have to offer with what he has to offer you. Combine that magic, magic, magic. And each year, when he is promoting his program, he changes and offers something new and amazing every single year. So he always does his three day live training, which he’ll have, for sure, the rise of the digital CEO, but this year, he added a brand new, free, live three day training called your first digital product, because that was the thing that people were saying was stopping them. They already have certain parts of their business. They already have, maybe their expertise or their type of coaching or their online presence. But.
But do they have their first digital product? Because we know from experience that
when we were started and we’re starting, we were totally overwhelmed, like we didn’t have the roadmap, the clarity back when we were in the health coaching business and health industry, and when we started learning from James, that’s when everything changed. I remember when we had joined business by design, our first huge success came when he had us set 90 day goals. And we were like, All right, we’re gonna hit this $150,000 revenue goal in 90 days. It was a huge stretch for us. And we’re like, we’re gonna do this. And then we hit it in the first 45 days. Like this is the most amazing problem to have. A problem we then have was, do we go for more? Do we change the goal? Like, what do we do? James? So if you’re sitting on any idea, a skill, or just the desire to help people and earn income online, then come join this. I mean, it’s it’s free, and it’s with James, and he offers ridiculous amounts of just clarity. He gives his whole self in every free training he does. This is an event. This is like coming to one of our live events, but online. So it’s not just an online training. It is like a thing, and it’s gonna, it’s gonna be long. I don’t know how long, but I would definitely assume that you want to be in it and have the time to do it so you can register. Now we have a link becoming zesty.com, forward slash digital product. We’ll put that link in the show notes. You definitely don’t want to miss this free three day live training your first digital product. So I’m not
going to tell you any more about what James said. I’m just going to get right into the interview. I got to interview him live in Sedona, where he lives, and it was so fun to record. And if you this is something I have already listened to five times, well, I’ve had it for a while. There’s so many good nuggets. Here you are going to want to take notes from this amazing mentor of ours. So we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We have some other fun tidbits from the James Wedmore BBD business by design community and episodes coming up. So stay tuned soon for more from their team.
Let’s get into the episode.
Welcome. Welcome to the becoming zesty podcast. I am here live in Sedona, Arizona with none other than my amazing business mentor, James Wedmore, thank you, James for showing up today.
James Wedmore 7:44
Well, I mean, it was just down the street. How could I not This is amazing. You come right to my doorstep. I’m I’m honored. And it’s so much. It’s so much more fun when we get to do this in person. So thanks for having me
Megan Blacksmith 7:56
It was an irresistible offer.
James Wedmore 7:59
That’s what we do here. It was irresistible. Yes!
Megan Blacksmith 8:02
So, I am here last year at BBD Live, which is the best event ever. You all are gonna hear about it. It was three days, super transformational for me. And one of the things that happened was one of the mastermind members has a non profit for was it hair of the dog Conservation Fund, and so anyone who made a really big donation, we are here now to do two days of business and digging in. And James is volunteering his time for anybody who donated to that organization. So I am super thankful to my past self for making that decision,
James Wedmore 8:41
Making that decision.
Megan Blacksmith 8:42
And here we are. And so when we got to do this interview live, I also got to interview Jenny on the podcast. So if you haven’t listened to that one, that one was all about intuition in business. And today I wanted to shift a little bit more towards beliefs in business, because as many of you already know, every year we send everyone who’s building a business coaches, people who have online courses, to business by design, because we believe it’s the place where it’s the manual, everything’s there. So we send people to that and that is just, it’s there for you. It has everything you need. The most important thing, though, that I’ve learned from James is like the beliefs behind what it takes to step into the next level. So maybe you have the funnel. But are you really the person who’s ready to attract 1000 new followers or so? That’s what I wanted to dig into today. Yeah, great, good. That sounds amazing. I have a lot I can share on that perfect I think one of the I’d love for you to share a little bit of when you’ve made big jumps in business, what were the biggest belief shifts, or what was happening for you every time you went from I know you kind of have these marks in business,
James Wedmore 8:42
yeah, yeah.
Megan Blacksmith 9:00
Because I think those are helpful for people to realize it wasn’t just about the right funnel.
James Wedmore 10:09
No that that have, that counts, that matters, but you know the right funnel is already out there. If you’ve ever tried or heard someone do a webinar, you know, there’s people out there, no matter who or when or what niche, that are successful with that. There’s people successful with challenges. There’s people successful with pre recorded video launches, live launches, and anyone listening has heard of at least one of those. So they’re out there and you see them, and you see them because they work, just like you see people that grow an audience with Instagram or a podcast or YouTube, and for every person that is successful with those, there’s obviously a large contingency of people that aren’t.
Speaker 1 10:55
And then, of course, what we do, as a fallacy, is we, we blame the external. We blame that thing. We blame it’s YouTube’s YouTube’s dead, or Instagram’s dead, or they change the algorithm, or I should have been on Tiktok, webinars are dead, and now webinars are dead. And it’s like, well, now you silly with your dead beliefs. Now webinars are back. You know, so because you were so busy beating the drum to this made up story that webinars are dead. You missed the boat because they’re back. Well, you know, you never miss the boat. But it’s a really interesting thing, because before we get into that, I there’s a there’s a statement I say to all my clients, and it really comes down to the core, as a business coach, of like, what I want to leave any client with, and it’s, to me, it’s the most important thing. It really is so important, and it’s the ability to diagnose. And it sounds so simple and so like irrelevant and non important.
Speaker 1 11:53
But if you and your business, at any stage of your business, decide to take an action, make a decision and go towards something really one of two things gonna happen at any time, right? You’re either gonna get closer see the result, or go beyond the result. That’s great all the things you do want, or you’re gonna see the opposite of that. You’re gonna see a problem, a mistake, a breakdown, a lack of results, the gap between what you wanted and what you got and what happens is, is business and life is actually more of getting not what we wanted. Right? Most people will describe their experience of business is like it didn’t turn out the way I wanted to, right? Yeah, I failed more times than I’d like to admit. And so the real magic and skill and mastery is in one’s ability to diagnose, get to the cause of, why did that happen? What caused that? And we’ve been saying these why questions our whole life, and then giving an answer. And then there’s our belief, there’s our meaning. And when you’re really bad at that, what happens is you you have to have an answer. Like it’s like humans have to have any. I can’t not know the answer. We’re so like uncomfortable not knowing that we would rather know a lie than to know the truth. And so the amount of times I’ve seen people go it didn’t work because webinars are dead, is so not accurate, but at least it’s something I can stand on, and then they’ll adjust accordingly. So imagine your ability to go about in your business, in your day, today, working, and when something doesn’t go your way, you know exactly what happened, what caused it, and when you actually know what caused it, then you actually have the power, the know how, and the skills to do something about it, but most people don’t, so it’s a very simple thing, and what I’m getting at here is that if you don’t know what’s causing the lack of results, then you will continue to stack and reinforce beliefs about why your life and business is the way It is, and then when it ain’t the external thing. So we either go to the external, like webinars are dead, or ads are dead, or this is dead, or that it’s too late. It’s too saturated. There’s too much. It’s my competitors. Yes, someone else followed their dreams, therefore you can’t follow yours, like the nonsense stuff we tell and if we don’t go to the external and blame the fixed external things that are outside of your control, like whether a webinar is alive or dead, then we go to ourselves, and we go to these harsh, awful like fatal, fatalistic decisions about who we are, who we’re not. I guess I’m just not cut out for this, or I’m too old for this, or I don’t have what it takes, or people just don’t like me, or I’m just not good enough, or no one respects me, or I’m to this, or I’m too that, or I’m not enough this, and all they’re noticed. They’re all things that really feel like there’s nothing we can do about it. And I mean, just doing this for 18 years now, I’ve seen people.
Speaker 1 14:59
Uh, younger, older, newer, all the exceptions to whatever silly story you’re telling yourself, be successful. I’ve seen people be successful with every in today, today, last year, the year before, every single year. That’s the privilege. And the the opportunity that I have is that when we’re working with 1000s of students, I got people in every niche that I can tell you right now that are successful with webinars, with challenges, with live, with automated with simple funnels, with high ticket, with low ticket, and and there is whatever belief that you are, because it’s just a belief. It’s a reason why you aren’t, why you can’t be, why you can’t have what you want. I already have in my back pocket, the exception that would act absolutely obliterate whatever story you’re telling yourself as to why it can’t be that true for you, why you can’t have it, why it won’t work for you, why it isn’t working. And I’ll tell you that the default for most people is the distortion. It’s the lie. It’s rarely ever that. It’s rarely that, yes, it’s because the webinars are dead. That’s why it didn’t work. It’s because you’re too old. It’s not going to work for you, like it’s nonsense. So and we just, I mean, I just a memory popped in my mind about a specific example. We were just coaching a new business by design member just the other week. I mean, obviously I don’t know her age. I didn’t ask. It’s not polite to ask, right? But she’s older. She’s definitely much, much older, I wouldn’t even want to guess. And she just filled the beta launch of her very first program, and it was like the whole room on Zoom was just like, moved and so inspired. And she teaches painting, and it’s such a beautiful niche. And the thing that she said to me, I’ll never forget, because this is what I get so excited about it. She goes, You know, it was great, like I have students now they’re paying me. I’m doing something I love. That’s my passion. She goes, but there’s one thing that occurred the last week that I never expected, which is people are coming to me and they’re saying, Thank you for creating this.
Speaker 1 16:59
Thank you for deciding to do this. This this is helping me in more ways than you even imagine. And I mean, it’s, it’s beautiful. I have I have the exception, I have the facts, and I have the evidence for any of those Silly Willy beliefs that people have about why they can’t do it. So that, out of the way, Megan, something I’ve been saying for years, business growth happens in stages. Okay? So there is a stage that you’re in currently. Fact, anyone listening, if you’re, you’re going, No, I’m not in business, great. Then you’re in the stage of no business. Okay, that’s the stage that you’re in. And then you start, you decide, today, in this moment, I’ve started a business. Great. You’re in startup phase, right? And then there’s a phase where you’re like, I have something. It’s out there, it’s working. There’s a that’s another stage, and then you’re in a stage where you’re like, now what? Right? And then there’s a stage where you get to where I’m at, and you have multiple products. You’re at eight figures a year. You’ve been doing this long, has a completely different stage.
Speaker 1 17:54
So growth happens in stages, which means there’s a target, there’s a result that we’re looking for in each stage. There’s a strategy and how to approach your business at every stage. And part of that strategy is the psychology behind that, how to approach the business. What it’s not about belief. To me anymore. You know, we’re gonna talk about beliefs, but it’s, it’s beyond belief. It’s about it’s about knowing. It’s about moving into more truth. It’s about thoughts that you choose to be your guide in how you drive that direction of your of your life. And I can give specific examples, but at every stage of business requires a different you. Bottom line, business growth happens in stages, and every stage requires a different you. And this takes me to my whole thing, and I’ll just I can get into specific examples of the stages of growth and how I had to change here, but one of the things that I do attribute that’s assisted me greatly is really one in the same I’m just going to say them differently, is that I’ve really found myself to be a chameleon in my Life. And by chameleon I mean as metaphor, I can adapt very easily to my current challenge, to my current business, to my what, what the needs of my business are, what the needs of my business in that stage are. So I can change most people. And this is a really sad and sobering truth, but we’re talking to coaches, and you guys are the army on the front lines. You know, doing some really dirty tough
Speaker 1 19:23
when you really get down to it unglamorous work. Because if you’re really a great coach, like people hate you most the time, you know it’s they hate you. They hate you. They hate that now they’re closed off to you. They blame you until you get that breakthrough, and you will go through the muck and mire of someone else’s beliefs and stories and emotions and all that, just so that you can give them enough where they can make a change within themselves.
Speaker 1 19:51
So the sad reality is, and I know maybe it’s like a jaded James is getting older, but I just see a lot of evidence of it, and I.
Speaker 1 20:00
You know, doesn’t mean I give up hope, but a lot of people don’t want to change. Most people don’t actually want to they want a change, but they don’t want to change big ass difference, right? Like, wouldn’t that be nice if I had a bigger home, a nicer car, and more money in the bank account? And the last thing Mo, and we can talk about why that is, but most people don’t want to connect the dots. To say, until I change, nothing outside is going to change. And I made for myself years ago, which I would call a hack today, I would say, is assisted me greatly, is that one of my highest values is growth. And so personal growth, professional growth, spiritual growth, any type of growth I’m here for. I love learning new skills, new habits, new ways of being, and I love to grow. And so the only way you can grow is if you’re willing to let go. And most people are conditioning their life so that they won’t let go until they let in, and that’s backwards. You got to let go to let in. So I’ll make the change. Once I see the change, I’ll I’ll quit the job and do or quit doing the things the way I’ve been doing it. Once I’m making the money and they condition their life, I’ll change once that changes, and it’s backwards, right? So what’s really assisted me is being willing to let go of what no longer serves me. So resistance in our life, when you feel resistance, is an unwillingness to let go of what no longer serves you in your life. And I’m willing to let go, to let in, and that includes beliefs, that includes unhealthy ways of being, or toxic traits, as people call them today, that don’t serve me at that at that next level. And I can give many, many examples, but yes, I have had these quantum leaps in growth that have occurred, and one that was like zero to zero to 100 100 to 300 300 to 1.2 million, 1.2 million to 2 million, and then 2 million to 10 million. And huge. I mean two to 10 in one one year, but the what caused that at that phase, which versus what caused, let’s say three to 1.2 are completely different. But the one common denominator, the one thing is the same. That is the same, is that I change. I had to completely repro program how I was looking at myself, how I was looking at business, how I spent my time, what I put my time in, where my value, all of that and all that has to change. And if you’re here listening, and you’ve been doing what you’re doing, and very little has changed over the past year, and you feel stuck, you feel stagnant, you feel like you’ve plateaued the I can guarantee you, without a shadow that, and I doubt, and I’d put a lot of money on it, we place a bet. I’m not a betting man, but I would bet a lot of money. It’s gonna come down to a change that you’re gonna have to make. And that’s wonderful. That’s a good thing. It’s not a bad I got a lot of work to do on myself. People would say that, like, oh, I guess I got a lot of work to do. We all do. And what a beautiful thing, what a beautiful thing to continue to want to learn and grow and let go so you can and let in. So the common denominator is, yeah, I had to completely change, but each one of those was vastly different. I’ll pause there, because I can get going well, I am curious. Was one of those the biggest leap or the hardest change of one of those jumps? Oh, for me, yeah. Um,
James Wedmore 23:28
hmm. Well, it’s tricky, because, like, you know what, what makes something hard and what makes something hard really comes down to just our unwillingness to let go of it. And I would say some of those were really hard, until the dealing with it, and this will make sense in a moment, until you are present to it, and you can let it go in an instant, like if we’re going on a hike and you realize there’s a spider on your back, and you wouldn’t know. You wouldn’t. You just wouldn’t know. And then the moment I pointed out to you is like, you’re you’re gonna let get that Rata here as quickly as, Oh my gosh, and let it go as soon as you can. And that’s how a lot of them occurred to me, is that they were blind spots that I was unaware of. And then the moment I was aware of it, it was actually very easy. So the one that was like, a really big one for me, was going from the My business was at $280,000 and this is all digital product sales, $280,000 in sales. And it went, I went to 1.2 million in the next year. And I can attribute it to a nanosecond moment decision in my life that literally, when I saw this, when I recognized this, and when this nanosecond of a moment occurred, life was completely different for me, and this is something that, unfortunately, when I share it, it will get go under appreciated, over simplistic, conceptualized in the head and never utilized by 98% of people that listen to this. And that’s fine. Hopefully you can store this away and then come back when your face.
Speaker 1 25:00
This and dealing with this, and go, oh yeah, because what I’ve always been obsessed with, Megan, and probably you are as well, is like the concepts, the things that we teach and we talk about, that we practice ourselves. We see the gap. I call it the gap, and it’s a gap between the person who knows this and them not applying it or integrating it in their life, and that gap is huge today, more than ever, because we’re in an age of information overwhelmed. There’s just so much content out there. You’re listening to a podcast right now, and when you say things, a lot of people say what I think is actually a very dangerous phrase for us to be saying. I think if you want to grow I think you need to stop saying this phrase, and it’s some version or iteration of I know this, or I know this already, or I already know that, because when I go into topics that are very simple and go, How can I learn this more, integrate this deeper and master this more, I always find that there’s more to apply in my life. Like, hey, you should be grateful. I know that already great. Then do it. I am well, you should be grateful that I reminded you know what I mean? Like, let’s start there. Okay, there’s so much more to be grateful for. There’s so much more compassion you can have. There’s so much more self love that you can have that you’re not allowing for. So if you say, I know this, you’re saying, Stop. I don’t want to do this anymore. So it’s the risk I run in sharing something like this, because there’s a difference of hearing a guy on a podcast telling the story versus having the experience of your light in your life where it occurs for you. So we’ve all seen that movie, Sixth Sense, and there’s a moment when Bruce Willis realizes a blind spot, which is he’s been dead the whole time. Sorry to spoil it. You’ve had 15 years to watch the movie, so I don’t know what to tell you, but that’s that was a blind spot for him. He did not know that he was dead, and in a moment, the thought is planted in his mind, the realization occurs, I am dead, and how he how everything occurs to him, from the past to the presence of the future, is forever changed, and this, these are the moments we want to be on a lookout for in our life. And that’s so hard. And I’m gonna, I’m gonna explain why in a moment. But what I what occurred to me in that moment, not that I was dead. That’s not the literal AHA that I had. I had this moment of stepping outside of myself, which we so rarely do, because we’re seeing life through our eyes, but we don’t see our own eyes, viewing our life very often, as I had this moment where I got to reflect and look back at how I was showing up in business and how I was showing up in my life, and I realized that I had gotten to 280,000 which is an incredible accomplishment that’s amazing, all from the drive and the need to be liked and get approval from others. And again I say it, and people go, Yeah, I know that. Okay, what? Just give me your funnel, right? And I’m doing the same things I was doing then, strategy wise, that probably half the people listening are doing as well, but I was doing it from a completely different place. Everything was about, I need you to like me. I need you to approve of me. I need your blessing. I need your compliments. I need your praise. And all of that is so problematic in so many ways. But what it came down to, first and foremost, for me, is I watered everything down that I was saying so much, I stayed so safe in everything I said, and how I said it, the decisions I made and how I showed up in my business, that no wonder I couldn’t get past that point and from that moment forward when I recognized that I decided to operate from a new truth. You can call it a belief, but it’s a truth, okay, it’s just a fact. And that decision was, I don’t need you to like me or say anything good about me, or keep me or your brain free of judgments of me, in order for me to help you, and if I’m really just here to serve, then that’s all I need to put my attention and my importance on is, can I make a difference for this person? And how can I show up from my 100% from whatever that level is, for me to pour into another, to offer what I have. So as I’m talking here today, in this moment, some people are gonna, well, everyone does. I mean, if you just start to understand how humans are wired, you have judgments and noise and thoughts and opinions and criticisms and evaluations about do I agree? Do I not agree? Is that true? Is that not true? Is that like this other thing I heard is this, like, Oh, I’ve heard that already. I already I already know. Oh my gosh. He’s taking too long to get the point now. Now he’s doing Hey. Now he’s saying the things that are in my head right now. And we do this all day long, and you’re doing it when you flipped your life onto a bit more autopilot. So if you’re like, not really present, if you didn’t take back control of your moment.
Speaker 1 29:59
Moment by moment, you’ll notice that that just comes up. So why was I giving power and importance to that? Well, why are all of us giving power and importance to that? So I’m on this podcast with you, and I’m not sitting there thinking, Oh, is this going on too long for people? Is he talking to no, I got something to say. I’m gonna say it. Some people are gonna get value at it. They’ll receive something from it. Someone’s gonna say he talks too much, blah, blah, blah. He’s not talking about the things I want to hear, you know, and that’s, that’s life, and that’s going to continue to go on. What was such a gift for me in that moment is I no longer gave any importance to that. I no longer gave my power away to that. I no longer cared. And even to this day, which I have to the only thing I can really brag about, only to, like, really prove a point, is it becomes rare and rare that there’s somebody in an industry like the one that we’re in that is doing it for 18 years and seeing a sustainable, lasting progress, growth and viability of a health, healthy, sustainable business. And one of the big things I attribute is, is what I learned in that, in that nano second. By the way, this was 2014 so this is 10 years ago that I’ll never forget. Which is, what am I going to give my importance to? Why am I doing this? You know, it’s wonderful to be loved. It’s wonderful to be like, don’t get me wrong, but that’s what friends and family are for. Okay, not your internet business. Your internet business isn’t here to make up for your limitation, limited beliefs and your insecurities. It’s not here to to give you, you know, this unhealthy co dependent relationship where you’re unhappy. So you need a business to make you happy or anything like that’s a very unhealthy and unsustainable way. And today, if there’s somebody that you know disagrees with me or doesn’t like the way I say something, it’s like, absolutely, yeah, I’m not for everybody, and neither is anybody listening. And that’s so much more freeing.
Speaker 1 31:58
And there’s so much more power in that. And I got that in and it really I got that in a nanosecond. It wasn’t hard for me at all. Megan, what was hard for me was leading up to that point. It was getting harder and harder to continue running a business, not really wanting to, feeling like I couldn’t do what I wanted to do the way I wanted to do it, expressing myself the way I want to do it, having as fun as I as much fun as I wanted to have, because I felt like I was constantly being judged, that I couldn’t rock the boat, that I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t do that without consequence, punishment, whatever. And most people approach life by saying, okay, so I’ll adjust so that they don’t say anything. Do anything. Get upset at me. I won’t have any haters and critics and naysayers. And that’s the opposite, that that’s limiting yourself to please the Boogeyman. This is a complete stranger on the internet, and instead of go, what if I just choose from this moment forward to not let that affect me? And the business exploded like I just from that day, said, what do I really want to do? What do I really want to say? Who do I really want to serve? And I made sure there was just nothing in front of that, nothing holding that. But it was unfiltered, unapologetic in your power go.
Speaker 1 33:16
And that was massive and such a it’s so simple, you know, and, and that’s why I say it’s like, it’s so hard, because people will hear that and be like, oh, yeah, yeah, I got that. Or, Oh, I’ll do that. But you’re not, and most people continue, no, I, you know, you know me. I’ve told that story. You’ve heard that story before. I share it with clients, and it’s not until someone gets hit with like, seven haters on a comment and post, and they get into a dark spot where you go. Now you get to learn what I was actually talking about. Now you get to apply it and close that gap. So I’m not teaching you a thing I’ve given up on that it’s like, I’ll give you the little, I don’t know, fortune cookies or whatever, but where you learn it is when you go through it yourself. I mean, experience and life itself is, is such a powerful, beautiful teacher. So if you keep growing your coach, you keep going, and you keep growing, you are going. I can guarantee you, guarantee unless you’ve already had this experience, because once you learn the lesson, you don’t get to repeat it. That’s a beautiful, good, good thing to know. But I guarantee you, if you haven’t learned and integrate this yet, there will come a moment in time in the future where you will be hit with an experience where one or a group of people disagree with something that you say, don’t like, have a problem with you or how you’re doing things. And that will be where you get to the choice to apply this lesson and integrate it as truth for you or repeat it. And then that’s where you stay. That’s where you get off business growth happens in stages. You don’t get to get to the next stage until you learn all there is to learn in the stage that you’re in. Because if you’re telling the universe or God source, whatever you want to call it yourself, your higher self, whatever, it doesn’t matter that, I can’t handle this stage, right?
Speaker 1 35:01
It, then no one’s serving you up the next stage. Because guess what? It ain’t, you know, Walt Disney lied to all of us. There ain’t no happily ever after. It’s, it’s happily ever now, not later, not once. I have this once the business is at that. That’s a fucking lie. It’s find a way to be at peace. Be gratitude. Be complete. Be Whole with wherever your business is right now. I can handle anything comes on me right now and then and only then you get to graduate to that next phase. I hope that all makes sense. I go on for a long time. I’m so glad you went to the needing to be liked belief, because I was going to bring that one up if you didn’t, okay, good, that one. So I’ve heard you tell the story many times, and when I heard you tell the story, the first time I remember thinking, that’s, that’s it, that’s, that’s what’s stopping me, like it’s that peacekeeping, that’s been a role, meet my role in the family. And so I heard it like you said, and it’s like, great. Now what? Right? So? And it wasn’t until later when I realized I was making a decision that was good for one person in a group, but not good for the other 20, yes and not offering something because it would upset one person and basically hurting the other 20, and me and the and so I had to learn it in a hard way. And I do think, having heard your story, I was on the lookout for, yeah, and that’s all you can be right coming right. Here it comes. I don’t know it when I see it. Do you think someone could get to a seven figure business needing to be like, I know that’s an arbitrary thing, but do you see that people get to seven figures and they still are really operating out of Yeah, I think you can, yeah, absolutely. But here’s, here’s the bottom line, it depends. Like, some people have different strategies for being like, so that’s it. That’s the next thing. Is that there’s a, it’s actually three things that are happening. First of all, it’s a strategy act or a certain particular way of being that you see manifested in the way they talk, the way they act, the way they show up. So that’s the final manifestation of it, that person’s expression in the world. Right behind that is a goal, an intent of I need to be liked. But the I need to be liked is actually a strategy to compensate for what we could call a wounded core belief, right? So if someone doesn’t feel good enough, some people say, Okay, well, I don’t feel good enough, or I don’t I don’t feel secure enough, or worthy enough, or lovable or like, whatever that is for that person, one of the things is okay, so then I’m gonna get people to like me, and then that manifests for different people a different way. So if you’re just dealing with, you know, the the surface level behavior at the end, you’re never getting to the root, the root cause. And so what I was really working through was the insecurities of of myself not being good enough. And I had a really, you know, low self esteem, poor self image, and didn’t think I was good enough, very just like a self loathing. Didn’t think highly of myself, not that we need to think highly of ourselves, but I thought poorly of myself, right? And so I grew up in an environment they, mean, they made it going to high school. They made a TV show out of my high school. So we were, like, the mecca of cool kids was Laguna Beach High School, and so I was a, you know, really unpopular, really nerdy, and that just kind of fostered more of that insecurity within me. But I observed and I watched and I and I could see very clearly what the cool kids were doing, and I was able to model that. So I had created a facade for myself, a character, if you will, and I was good at it to a degree, but it was also had more limitations. So yes, I think someone can get to a revenue number Absolutely.
James Wedmore 39:08
But I can say two things. Number one, whatever level you get to, you are vastly limiting what you could have gotten to if you dropped the act. And number two, it’s only a matter of time, and this is what we see more of, where you stop because something is unsettled within you. People feel empty, they feel unfulfilled, they feel lost. They feel like they’ve lost themselves. And I watched that, and so it’s almost like, I mean, maybe I’m making too big of a leap here, but it’s almost like you’re making a deal with the devil you know, like, Hey, let me just make this money and I’ll compromise my values, my authenticity and who I really am to do it. And.
Speaker 1 40:00
And then maybe you will make a little bit of money, and then you wake up and you’re like, you’re miserable, and you’re unhappy, and your your compass is all wonky, you know. Before I came here,
James Wedmore 40:14
I’m I’m sitting in my backyard, and I’m building a shed, you know. And this morning, I got up and there was, like, someone in our group complaining about videos being too long. Average video length is 12 to 14 minutes. And like, yeah, I feel like I’m giving up, and I’m not going to do this because the videos are just too long.
Speaker 1 40:36
It’s 12 to 14 minutes, which has actually been psychologically proven, is a great time container for people to, like, learn a new piece of information. And you know, you I’ve been teaching and obsessing about teaching for 18 years. It’s really at the core of what I do. And I looked at that, and there was such a like sadness in me, because I’m like people will no matter what you do as a coach, as a teacher, as a course creator, whatever, no matter what you do, people will find a reason or a way to not confront their own demons, their own insecurities and their own limitations. And most people will.
Speaker 1 41:19
It’s this it’s this thing over here. So it’s sad for me, but an older, older, younger version of me would have reacted, oh my gosh. I gotta make up shorter. I gotta change who I am. And I’m sitting there and I’m just present to it. It’s like, I see it clearly. I’m like, that’s that person’s inability, unwillingness to fight past any level of discomfort, going outside their own comfort zone, and then looking for that reason why they can’t. And then I sat there, seen that clearly, and put zero importance on it.
Speaker 1 41:56
I don’t need somebody to praise me my pro. I don’t need somebody go. This is me. I don’t need that. And I also don’t
Speaker 1 42:04
need to be consoled. If someone doesn’t like the length of videos, or the content, the quality, I’m just going outside and going to work on my shed, you know, and, and the point I’m getting at is are trying to get at it’s, it’s very intangible, until you’re there is,
James Wedmore 42:21
this is an interesting business that we’re all in. It’s both like the most simple and hardest business you’ll ever you’ll ever do, because it’s just like it’s a mind fuck in so many ways. And the point of that story is to say, no matter how many, I mean, we we have an email list of 350,000 we’re reaching 1000s and 1000s and 1000s of people every day.
You know, you have events with 1000 people. And I don’t want to ever lose sight of what’s important to me. I don’t want my significance, my importance or value equated by anything that would be determined by anybody that interacts with me, works with me, has feedback from anything, right and to be free of that on both the positive and the negative side, is such a it’s the only way you can sustain long term, you know what I mean. And so why I said all that is like, Yeah, I’m sure someone can find a way to, you know, fake it and like and get a certain amount of money. But at what cost and where will they wake up one day and realize they’ve separated themselves so much from who they are that they don’t even know who they are that anymore, and they’re not happy. And bottom line, what I know is that people pick up on stuff, even if it’s at an unconscious level. And we’ve all had that, I don’t know what it is about her, I don’t know what it is about him. We all say that all the time, and so the bigger that gets, the more people are gonna feel it. And what I also hear from people as they go.
Speaker 1 44:02
You know, I don’t know what it is about her, but I just love like she just doesn’t give a fuck. She’s just like she’s just in her power, she just, she just shows up and says what she wants to say.
Speaker 1 44:16
And I want that, so maybe you can get to seven, but that means, if you did, you could have gotten to nine, because to be in that level of congruency is the most magnetic force. Because we all agree that we’ve all had the experience of someone who was a little too needy, a little too needed to be like needed your approval repelled you. It pushed you away. So even if you’re doing that at one percentage, you’re still repelling and pushing away what could have been a customer, a client, more sales. Does this make sense?
Megan Blacksmith 44:51
So I’m thinking how we see in our NLP training, which is in person, in seven days, we see people physically get up, they’ll leave.
And go to the bathroom right when they’re about to hit a belief, they’re like,
James Wedmore 45:03
Lock the doors and give them a bucket. That’s what Megan does it. You just still do that, right?
Megan Blacksmith 45:07
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 45:07
Just give them a bucket. Everybody gets one bucket, and everyone shares it,
Megan Blacksmith 45:11
Pass it around.
So we’re in a container. And you’re, yeah, you’re saying they’re coming up about against their belief, and now they’re complaining about the video length. Or, I know I’ve heard you share, like someone complain about your PDFs or something, right? Yeah, so..
James Wedmore 45:25
Not being pretty enough or something, I mean, yeah.
Megan Blacksmith 45:28
And it’s, it’s fascinating the human behavior behind that. And so I know, I know, obviously everyone here knows we train an NLP, and you’ve infused a lot of NLP into how you teach. And I think that’s why, for me, it’s so effective. Because there’s a strategy. There’s like, here’s exactly how to run your webinar, like, line by line,
James Wedmore 45:51
Yep.
Megan Blacksmith 45:52
And then there’s the, what are you believing about yourself?
James Wedmore 45:56
Yeah, oh, yeah. Which?
Megan Blacksmith 45:57
How are you gonna show which? Do that?
James Wedmore 45:59
Because, because, here’s the thing is, I could teach a student how to do a webinar, and you see it. I have the slide deck templates, we have the training on how to do it, and I can have you build it, and I’m not mean you Megan. I’m taking somebody else, right? Megan is different. But I could have someone out there build it and go, I got it, and it’s done. And I could have you, the audience member, run it,
Speaker 1 46:21
and then I’ll run it, and I guarantee I’ll make more sales with it than you. Now that’s a really cocky ass statement to say, Okay, I know that, but I’m trying to prove a point. So you did the steps, and you followed the template, and let’s say you get five sales from it. Now give it to me. Let me put it in front of the same amount of people, and I can guarantee I will make more sales, right? But isn’t that crazy? Why is that?
Speaker 1 46:47
It’s, it’s, it’s the invisible ingredient that most people don’t want to look at, which is how you’re showing up, the energy that you bring to it that brings it to life. And that’s a huge thing. And I’m so I’m not really I’m not trying to say anything about myself. That’s not the point of that. And what the point is is that
Speaker 1 47:07
I can demonstrate that two people can say the exact same things and follow the exact same script, template or model, and one person’s gonna make it work better or more than the other person. So there’s something that that person is doing, providing, projecting coming from that’s making a difference, and that is the difference. This is a huge difference, you know, and and I hope people get that. So let me, let me talk about something really quickly, because I think when we see people confronted by that and they want to retreat in some way, physically or mentally in their mind,
Speaker 1 47:47
I often ask myself about that, and why does that occur?
James Wedmore 47:51
And here’s what I’ve come to. And I don’t know what your opinion or assessment is of that, but I think there’s things that we call beliefs, that people call beliefs, and then, ironically, the more you get into the world of working with clients and talking about beliefs, it’s the ego is still doing the same thing, but now we just call things beliefs. So people will come to me as they probably come to you, and they’re like Megan, I have a belief around blah, blah, blah. What do I do with it? I would say nine times out of 10, if not all. 10 times out of 10 when they say I have a belief about blank, they’re already lying to themselves, and as a result, they’re lying to me. So I have a belief about blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and if I address whatever they gave me, I always find out, usually in a matter of moments, that it’s actually something else beneath that. So an actual belief that we’re dealing with doesn’t occur to us as a belief, and this is really important, a real belief that we call a limiting belief, this is my philosophy, but it’s just based on working with so many people. Doesn’t occur to us as a belief. It occurs to us as this is the reality. This is how it is. So if you’re already coming to me or Megan and saying, I’ve got this belief around I go, bullshit. Because if you go, I hope there’s no kids watching. But if you come to me and say, I have a belief that Santa’s real, what do I do with it? It’s like, well, what would you do with that? Like, drop it, you know, or hold on to it, do whatever you want to do, but you see it as a belief, so you know what to do with it. It’s the thing behind that that still occurs, the invisible part. And people do often speak in just half a belief, so they’re only revealing half, and the other part is invisible, so they’re experiencing as this is the way it is. So this leads me to my next point.
Speaker 1 49:47
If we so our beliefs are the blueprint and building blocks for our life, okay,
Speaker 1 49:53
but that’s number one. Number two is beliefs occur to us as the way it is. So they occur to us as.
Speaker 1 50:00
As facts, reality, building blocks for our world. So if we as coaches go to work on assisting somebody, because I mean changing, rewiring, changing your beliefs and change your whole life, but if you go to work on that with an individual, and this is a new thing for them, and
Speaker 1 50:20
new can be a relative term. I mean, sometimes people been doing work for years and still doesn’t get very far, but let’s say it’s new.
James Wedmore 50:27
The implication that we need to get present to for that person, when challenging a belief, just hear me out, is that the ego is saying, If this isn’t real, what is if this isn’t real, then who am I that’s been believing this to be real, and the threat to their world and themselves becomes the biggest threat, like Code Red, 911, May Day, May Day, because it’s almost like if I can’t hang my hat on this, I don’t even know if the ground beneath my feet will hold me up anymore, and if this is what I’ve been believing true my whole life, then what does that say about who I am and people get so confronted by that that they would rather hold on to being right than let go of something because it doesn’t serve them in their life. And I believe that’s at the core is our belief around beliefs that’s that would have someone hold on to something so tightly. And if, and this is what I call the ego bond, which is your it’s like your ego has, like, okay, the in my mind, I’m very visual, so it’s like every belief is like a cement block or a brick, but then we’ve cemented them in so they’re they’re fixed, they’re immovable, they’re unchangeable, so getting the first few loose is a really hard but then once you can break that cement bond and start to replace them, it’s like it becomes a really fun game, and it becomes a lot faster, and it becomes a lot easier. And today for me, I can sit there and say, Oh, I’m in a new context now, or I’m in a new growth level, or I need to see this different. And I’ll given it up, given a specific example of how those beliefs have had to change at each level. And it’s like they’re not beliefs. They’re just programs. Like, I don’t even want to use the word belief anymore, because people keep coming back with I have a belief about this, and I have a belief about this, and then I have beliefs about my beliefs, and it becomes a really fun game. It’s like, oh, I just need to program this in and and then you do. So let me quickly talk about the growth that happened from two to 10, because that was a big quantum leap. 2 million to 10, we had a CFO. He’s a consultant. He was the CFO for free credit report.com. Took the company from startup to like, billions. They sold they sold it for billions. And, you know, he’s retired for shits and giggles. He consults small businesses. So he’s consulting mine, and he told me, he’s like, I’ve never seen a small business do this without funding, without anything like, you didn’t double your at the same amount of employees at the starters I did the finish. He’s like, This is unheard of, two to 10. Is unheard of, two to 10 million in one year, we had a business coach for my number two, so she was, it was like a leadership coach for my number two on the team. She asked, What are your goals this year? We said, 10 million. She goes, where are you at? Now, I said, Two. She laughed. Can you imagine, just like that, she laughed, right? She laughed at us. Oh my gosh, this is like, like, You’re ridiculous. Can you imagine, first of all, since I’m talking to coaches, you better not be laughing at your clients goals. Can you imagine hiring someone to help you with your goals, and when you finally tell them, they laugh, right? Well, little did she know I love it when people laugh at me. I’d love to prove people wrong. That’s my stubborn nature. So the odds were against us and but I was really excited about it. Now there’s a conversation which we don’t have to go to but about attachment and detachment. You’ve heard me talk about it a lot, and is there was, I was not attached to 10 million. I could care less about hitting it. And that’s the thing that people don’t really get my life. I’ll tell you now, my life is not any better because my business makes 10 million versus 2 million. I joke and tell people the only difference was that I could get approved easier for my short term rental properties. That’s the only difference. Same quality of life, same quality of happiness, which is no different. It’s no different. So it didn’t have this. I didn’t attach my worth value or identity to it at all whatsoever. But I was very excited about the game of going after it. And that’s.
Speaker 1 55:00
The real secret is like, you need to fall in love with the pursuit, the process and the day to day. And I just really love growth and change, as I mentioned earlier. So I started asking this question about like, well, what does a ten million a year CEO do differently?
Speaker 1 55:19
What does he focus on, what does she do? What does that person do? What do they value? Etc. And little by little, I started getting answers that just, it’s just a fact, it’s just it’s not a belief. At a six figure business, these thoughts don’t need to enter your head. They’re completely irrelevant. A ten million business, they are, and here’s what one of them boiled down to. The highest value that a ten million a year CEO could possibly provide to his company. His or her company, is the value of coaching up and investing in his key leaders
Speaker 1 56:01
90% of my time went to how do I get my people to be a plus players? I spent more time with them, trained them more, supported them in everything they could so that they could do their job. It was the best use of my time, because when you have a person that’s as good as you invested in the vision and the work and ownership of the responsibility of key metrics in the business. It’s like you dr, it’s the equivalence to cloning yourself. And that’s what I did, and I focused all of my efforts on three people, and that was a huge piece. So that’s not a belief. That’s a fucking fact, and that fact is irrelevant when it’s just you starting your business. So different phases of growth, different strategies, we’ve got to be willing to ask the questions, sit in the silence and receive those answers, and sure enough,
Speaker 1 56:53
we exploded in revenue. In other words, other things as well. But what I also want to throw in there, which is really important, as I was saying before, is people want to not let go until they’ve let in, and that’s backwards. So the only reason,
Speaker 1 57:12
and this is a great belief that you should instill as truth for yourself, the only way you will get to where you want to go, is if you start doing the things that that person would be doing now. So I had to make decisions like an eight figure company. I had to make the choices and the actions and have the behaviors. We had to run like an eight figure company at 2 million but people go, I’ll wait until we get there, and then I’ll change. Well, how long have you been saying that? And nothing’s changed. All change starts from within. And this stuff about the work that you do, and obviously the work that I get into, even though I’m just a business coach, boils down to the simple, most beautiful thing is all growth and change in your life starts with inner growth. We change from the inside, and then, and only then is when anything outside changes. And
James Wedmore 58:02
I hope I’m enough proof and evidence of that, you know. So we want to do something out there. We want to make more money, we want to grow the business. We want to get on Instagram. We want to get on ads. We want to do this thing. But you’re the same person doing what you were doing six months ago, you’re just doing a new action, adding more, but you’re still doing it the same way, and you take your stuff with you wherever you go. So hopefully that makes sense for people, but that change had to happen from within. First,
Megan Blacksmith 58:39
We have a lot of people who jump around from like one niche to another or one launch vehicle to another, yeah, and I have learned from you that business should be boring, yes, and get a hobby.
James Wedmore 58:55
Yes, yes, absolutely.
Megan Blacksmith 58:58
What do you think is happening with the jumping around?
James Wedmore 59:00
Well, that is a great question, because I think it’s different for a lot of people, but I can sit there and say, you know, behavior is predicated by belief, so there’s some context, narrative, story that’s driving that behavior right. And one is an expectation of it’s supposed to be, if it isn’t fast, instant, easy and an immediate success, then it’s not meant to be. Now think about that. If you had decided that that’s what’s true, is that anything you pursue needs to be an instant win, success. I need to see results right out of the gate. It’s got to be quick, easy, fast, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and it’s not Wouldn’t that drive a behavior to try something different. It’s like, if you go to a buffet and it’s a bunch of food you’ve never eaten, you have a good expectation to say, I’m only going to eat it if it tastes good. So you try one bite it doesn’t taste good, you don’t keep eating it, right? So in certain contexts, that makes a lot of sense, like, I don’t like how this tastes, I’m going to spit it out. I’m going to go for the lobster. Right? Just give me a stake.
Speaker 1 1:00:02
But in business, everyone I’ve seen and every example of success, the of course, the exception proves the rule is someone had to put in the work. They had to fail five or six times. They had to mess it up. Look awful. Do all the things wrong, have a few ugly cries, and then make progress from that consistency. And if I if it was a race and you got one person hopping around trying every niche and every strategy and every platform, and one person just blindly flipped a coin for their niche, for their strategy and for their platform, I would bet the person with the blindfold would win, because if they just stuck with that, you would make more progress in your consistency than you’re starting over. Because every time you start over, you go back to zero. And if you think of a car, a car going from zero to five miles an hour is using the most amount of RPM and engine power, so you’re stuck in first gear, going zero to five, no stop. Go back to 04, to five. That’s the most effort, and that’s people can’t even comprehend today because of the work I put in 18 years ago. The work it takes today to keep my business going is like blowing a feather compared to what it took, the effort it took me to start a business compounded so much more than it is to keep it going. So consistency breeds momentum. And you know, yeah, it helps to be doing something you love massively. Do what you love. Love what you do. It helps to be really good at it. A lot of passion and enthusiasm behind it is definitely helps, but consistency is key. And to the boring piece is, you know, that’s me kind of being cheeky. I mean, don’t get me wrong, like this can be fun too. Should be fun. So an example of that is, okay,
James Wedmore 1:01:59
I’m on a podcast, so we’re working this is fun for me. I’ve also talked about these things 100 times. This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about it. So I don’t need to be entertained by it. I don’t need to be like, Oh, it needs to be new for me, or I don’t do it. I’ll talk about this 500 I’ll talk about until I’m blue in the face, because if one person sends me a DM and says that really helped me, great. That’s all I need. And the the, well, I’ll just say this, the line I’ve been telling a lot of clients recently, which I think is a really powerful and really important line, is everything that you want from business. Maybe you’ve heard me say it, because I’ve been saying it a lot this year, everything you want from your business. What is it we want from our business? We want more money. We want freedom. We want a sense of fulfillment. We want purpose. We want power. We want like this is great, like I’m doing what I love. I love what you want, all that, and I want that for everybody, all of that exists on the other side of what you haven’t been replicating and delegating.
So all of that expansion, all of that growth, all that freedom, all that fulfillment is on is is only available when you replicate, which means do it again and get it off your plate. Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. But if doing it again makes you bored. You’re in big trouble.
Like, that’s why I’m like, get a hobby. Your business, its job is not to entertain you. And I get it. I’m the very entrepreneurial type, so I build a shed in my backyard. I have hobbies. I do, but I’m not going to jeopardize my clients, the growth of my business, or anything of that, because I feel bored today, you know? And I think that’s a very immature and irresponsible way to approach a business. I’m just going to change directions because I’m bored. It’s like there’s so many other things that can go watch a movie. There’s great movies out there go on Netflix, right? So, I mean, and I know it’s silly, but all the everything that you want in your business is available if you can do the same thing over and over and over again. I’m gonna give an example of that. Anytime someone does their first launch with me, I teach them how to do a launch or promotion. One of the first big jokes they say is, I have never written so many emails in my entire life, and it’s like I was sending out warm up. Emails, reminder emails, invite emails, open cart, emails, cart closing. Emails, welcome emails, like, oh my goodness, I am like a professional copywriter, because I have 10,000 hours of writing emails just from this last launch. And the silliest thing that people will say is I don’t ever want to do that again. And I’m like, Yeah, because you don’t have to
control C, control V, your freaking life. Do it again. We have emails. And don’t get me wrong, we have emails, so we’ve been launching the same product since 2016 and I have same versions of those emails from 2016 now every year, don’t get me wrong, every year I review all of them. I make my changes. I what we call dusting. I give them a dusting like I add this change that I feel like. I would say it this way now, but I’m never doing anything in my business more than once.
And you do this thing, and you write all those emails, you create the landing page, you create the sales page, you create the product. You do all these pieces of it. It’s exhausting for the first time, and it makes you seven sales. And you’re like, on one hand, you’re like, I’m happy, but like, I can’t live off of seven sales. Is my business. Maybe I’ll change direction. So all that work you that you took months for you to do, you just, like, threw it out the window, go. Let’s just do all that work again. And maybe this will be an instant success. Whereas the smart person goes, I made seven sales. That was a lot of work, and it’s not worth it.
But if I do it again, it’s going to be 10% of the work, because I’m just improving things here. I’m going to delete this, I’m going to add this, I’m going to change that, and then it gets 15 sales. And you go, Holy Spicoli. It’s making some progress here. Let’s add a little bit here. Let’s change this. Let’s do the debrief. James always says that stupid phrase, the magics and the debrief. So let’s see, what did I miss? What did I what can I learn? What are the numbers telling me? I can add this. I can change this. I can improve this. Oh my gosh. Now I’m at 30 sales, and I worked the same as the last time, which was a fraction of the first time. Now we’re getting some more momentum. Consistency breeds momentum, and that’s the person I’m gonna bet on, that horse is gonna win the race, versus the person that says, No, I’m gonna start over. No, I’m gonna go in this niche. I’m gonna go, I mean, I’m exhausted watching some of those people do that. You’re losing all the momentum. And this is a momentum game. This is a long game. This is a long game. That’s why I’m winning, not that I’m keeping score, but it’s successful because I understand it’s a long game, and I’m pacing myself in a marathon. And I can do that. I understand, and I have data to back this up, that there is someone finding me right now that will buy from me in three years, because we have that data, we have people that we can track five years they go through our stuff before they buy a single thing from me. 26% of our buyers in our last launch attended up to four previous annual launches before buying. Wow, up to four. Some people watch four years in a row. So you go out and you spend 30 days doing this at a note no one knows you from Adam or Eve. You put something out there. It tanks. You get in yourself pity and you give up.
There’s nothing special about me. There’s nothing that I have that anybody else doesn’t. Except I’m willing to just keep going because I understand the marketing psychology of how many touch points people need, how many, how much of a rapport, connection, relationship, they need before they’re willing to pull the trigger? And you didn’t even create the environment for that to come to fruition. You gave up. I am always looking at the seeds that I plant today, whether it’s a piece of content, a value, whatever could pay off dividends years from now. I don’t keep track of that. I don’t care. I just keep knowing. Just keep sowing your seeds. And Johnny Appleseed, Megan apple seed, over here, the fruit will keep coming, but people stop. And the last thing I’ll say, because I go on all these rants, and I have too many rants, we could just create a whole separate show on my rants, is I went on a rant recently because we had somebody that, you know, gave it their shot for 30 days and gave up. And again, it was a heart broken heart 30 days.
I was broke for four and a half years doing this full time. I moved back. I said, I want to do this. And like, my heart’s in it, and I really want to do this. And back then I was just teaching how to make YouTube videos four and a half years before I made any money. And, yeah, I was frustrated, and I was I wanted to hit a number, I wanted to make money, and all that type of stuff.
But here’s what I know today, is failure. The only failure that exists in my world, in terms of a business context, is the conscious or unconscious, I guess, choice to stop you give up, you’re a failure. Sorry. I need that to sting a little bit for people. If you give up, if you say this was too hard, I want it. That’s like a thing. I want this, but I’m not willing to do what it takes, then you are a failure. And that’s, I know that’s really hard pill for a lot of people to swallow. But if you say, I want this, and I’ve tried 17 ways and it hasn’t worked yet, let’s try 18. Let’s give 19 a go. You are the most commendable, amazing, inspiring human on the planet. I mean, that is just like that’s, I’m always in awe of that. And we have clients with people that you know that they have, they’ve had failure after failure, and they just keep getting back up, and they keep and I’m like, I’m so impressed by you. That’s just thank you for being who you are, really, truly, because most people give up. And I forgot where I was going to go with that, but, oh yeah, yeah, okay. So, so most people give up, most people fail. You.
Speaker 1 1:09:59
Yeah, and what’s really happening there is they’ve put all their importance on the end result and no importance on the process. And I think, and if you want to end here, if you want to keep going, Megan, I know I talk a lot, you know, you can just she’s she left the room at some point. She was, like, making a sandwich. This is great. This is the easiest interview or the worst interview you’ve ever done, but it’s like, oh, here I’ll just go and I’ll just talk. But, you know, I can’t help but I always have a lot of stuff on my mind. But here’s the thing, if you’ve put all of your importance, attachments and significance on the end result, like a certain amount of money, certain level of status, fame, reach popularity metrics or whatever, and none on the process, you are setting yourself up in the most exposed and vulnerable way to crash and burn, because business is an environment where most of the time you won’t hit the results you wanted. Most of the times you don’t have the extraordinary breakthroughs and wins. However, if you put all of your important significance and attachment on the process, you are guaranteed, without a shadow of a doubt, in the most powerful, effective way, to have unbelievable levels of success and abundance for the rest of your life, because the process is as simple as this. Like it’s too simple. So again, one of these simple things that people don’t value the process is show up every day and help people. And if you did that every day, I can guarantee you you’re gonna get where you’re gonna go faster, you’re gonna be happier doing it, you’re gonna have more success and more abundance. And then I can ask people, they’ll Well, I’ll say that to people, and they say, I did that for a little bit. It didn’t work. It was like, there’s your attachment. It is working. If, if your attachment is every day, I show up and I help people, then you’re helping somebody. So it’s working. So there’s nowhere to get to there’s nowhere to go. You’re there, you’re doing it, and you’re doing it at every level. So the question to everyone listening is, who did you help today? What piece of content Did you share today? What life did you have the potential and possibility of touching today? And if you didn’t do that, you’re not getting what I’m you’re not picking up what I’m putting down. You’re not getting it. Fall in love with the process. Be the process. Do the process? Live the process every single day, and you’ll never have to worry about anything in your business for the rest of your life, because every single day you’re helping people. And if you help enough people, enough people will want to work with you, more you’ll have enough rapport, connection, more audience, more people that say, Yes, take my money. Yes, I want to work with you. How can I stop working with anybody else and only work with you for the rest of my life? And that is the greatest insurance plan in this line of work and business, and there’s far too little people that are operating that way. We see it, social media has become about vanity metrics. It’s about look how popular and important I am, because I have more numbers than you, and none of that shit actually matters at the end of the day, because people even know that they play into it otherwise. Why would they need to notify you when they’re unfollowing you I’m unfollowing Well, you didn’t notify me when you followed me. So why? Why are you? Why are you broadcasting when you want to leave? Because you think I have importance on that. You think I’m giving that importance only you are right. And so if you just say, Hey, I’m just here to show up and help anybody today, and it starts with one, maybe tomorrow, it’s two, maybe one day, it’s five, and before you know it, you’re sitting there with 340,000 people receiving your emails and wanting to hear from you, and that’s 18 years of that. And I can sit there and say, I think
Speaker 1 1:13:23
I can say pretty confidently, if you do 18 times, what is 52 weeks in a year, there has not been a week in those 18 years that I didn’t put something out there that was just, how can I serve somebody today? A YouTube video, we have 700 and something. Podcast episodes, two to three posts a day on Instagram, email newsletter in my Facebook groups and all my there’s something almost daily, but definitely every single week, people are going, Well, I’m only going to do that if it makes me a certain money, you’re missing the point. So that’s one of my rants. I’m sorry. Megan, you can edit this all out if you want. Nothing is coming out. James,
Megan Blacksmith 1:14:00
I do want to wrap up and make sure everyone our goal, and it’s the same goal you have, is that people the healers, the people who have a gift, the people who have thought leadership, the people who have something that we really know needs to get into the hands of people are getting the tools, the skills, the way to change their beliefs so that they can go do this. Yeah? So I want to encourage anybody who’s already gone to James training three times, maybe don’t need to be a fourth. Yeah, if this is your first time, and maybe just go with it. Go with your gut on the first one. Because I know for us, we didn’t. We didn’t quite realize for a few years, honestly, this is funny now, we were thinking it was just for someone who’s totally new, and we’ve been launching for five years and missed out on I laugh at that now, because I’ve still probably done like 10% of what you offer in there. So kind of at any stage, I want to encourage people to go through process. I’m gonna put the link in the show notes. Of all, there’s tons of free training coming up, James, you serve the heck out of the community for months and months leading up to business by design. And then anyone who feels called just, just do it this year, and know that you can, you can also do the work to get into that identity.
James Wedmore 1:15:20
Yeah, yeah. It was really cool. I had a friend that I’ve known for 10 years. She She’s, her business is between four and 5 million and she has, she has business by design, and she just texted me out of the blues, the coolest. It was a kind of thing. And she’s like, holy crap. I had no idea how amazing this. Oh, thank you. Thank you. You know, stroke the ego for the day. But the point is, is, even at that level, she was like, blown away by what was in there and available for her.
Speaker 1 1:15:49
And no matter if you’re the day, you’re in business, you need structure, you need the processes, and you need the step by step. Otherwise you’re just working, like trying to find the light switch in a dark room, you know, and you’re stumbling through the dark, but when you have that structure and those step by steps, well, you have something you can follow, something you can fall back on. So that’s that’s why I created everything the way that I did, because it’s so important in this business. So yeah, thank you, James, you’ve definitely served everybody here listening today. I’d love for you all to share this on all the places, Instagram. Tag James. Tag us. Any any of your takeaways. We’d love to hear email us, and if you hated it, let me know too. Let him know. I always want to know who my haters are, but they didn’t stay to the end. I’m sure they skipped this episode by now.
Megan Blacksmith 1:16:37
